5th Grade Measurement is all about 2-d and 3-d measurement. Students use tables to perform conversions, providing practice in algebraic reasoning. They model the figures and use their models to decide if they need to perform a conversion and then choose length, area, perimeter, or volume to solve the problem. The concept of ‘formula’ is developed so that students understand why formulas exist and how to use them. They learn to organize their solutions to keep track of the complicated computations required in 5th grade. Activities include lots of scaffolding so measurement is accessible for all students. This book includes activities for the whole class, small groups, centers, intervention, and guided math that build the academic language of the measurement.
