Thinking stems help students get started in speaking or writing in response to high level questions that the teacher asks. Students may struggle finding just the right words to explain, describe, and clarify what they are thinking. One way to help students, and further engage English language learners or other students who may need a little extra linguistic support in class discussions, is to provide thinking stems.
